The City Government (Pemkot) Surabaya prepared various anticipatory measures ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijri or Lebaran 2026. This effort is made to ensure the community can celebrate the holiday safely and comfortably, both for residents who travel home and who remain in the city of Heroes.
The tradition of homecoming every year is always accompanied by a surge in mobility of the community. In that period, many residents left Surabaya to their home area, while others continued to carry out activities in the city.
Assistant Government and People’s Welfare of Surabaya Municipal Government, M Fikser, said that the Mayor of Surabaya Eri Cahyadi will issue an appeal letter to the community, especially for residents who plan to go home using private vehicles.
“The Mayor will convey an appeal letter to the citizens of Surabaya, one of which is for the community to ensure the condition of the vehicle in good condition before traveling,” said Fikser, Friday (13/3/2026).
He asserted, the readiness of the vehicle becomes an important factor to support the safety of travel. Therefore, the community is encouraged to do an inspection or servicing of the vehicle first before leaving homecoming.
In addition to ensuring the vehicle is in tip-top condition, residents are also asked to pay attention to the safety of the house to be left behind. Electrical installations and waterways need to be checked to prevent potential disturbances as long as the house is unoccupied.
Surabaya City Government also reminded the public to ensure all doors and windows are locked well. Residents who are advised to provide information to neighbors or environmental security officers to keep the house monitored as long as it is left.
“If leaving the house for a long time, people should communicate with the right and left neighbors or neighborhood administrators so that the condition of the house remains monitored,” he said.
According to him, the momentum of Lebaran always presents two situations that take place simultaneously, namely some residents leave the city to return to their hometown, while others remain in Surabaya.
“For residents who travel home, we hope to arrive at the destination safely. As for residents who remain in Surabaya, let’s together take care of this city by helping each other to maintain security and environmental order, “he said.
On the other hand, the Surabaya City Government also matured various preparations for the long holiday period through cross-agency coordination meetings to ensure the readiness of all parties involved.
In the near future, the Surabaya Municipal Government will hold preparedness apples involving various elements, ranging from the TNI, Polri, to related agencies. The apple also involves various other supporting elements and the plan is led directly by the Mayor of Surabaya.
Fikser said the activity was a momentum to affirm the commitment of officers who continue to carry out their duties as the community enjoys the holiday period. “When some residents are on vacation, the officers continue to carry out their duties to maintain the safety and comfort of the city of Surabaya,” he said.
During the Lebaran holiday period, a number of regional devices and public services remain alerted. Although there is a joint leave schedule, the work system will be arranged in turn so that service to the community continues to run.
