The City Government (Pemkot) Surabaya through Satpol PP Kota ordered a number of merchant stalls that stood along Jalan Simo Katrungan, Monday (9/3/2026). Order is done because the stalls use the shoulder of the road to often trigger congestion and interfere with the activities of residents.
The order involves joint personnel from various regional devices in the Surabaya City Government. Among them Satpol PP, the Department of Water Resources and Bina Marga (DSDABM), Transportation Service (Dishub), the devices of Sawahan and Sukomanunggal District, as well as elements of TNI-Polri.
Head of Public Order and Public Order Control of Satpol PP Surabaya, Mudita Dhira Widaksa, said officers ordered various buildings and stalls that stood on the right and left side of Jalan Simo Katrungan.
“We order semi-permanent buildings, permanent buildings, building offices, to merchant stalls. Items that are on the shoulder of the road or above the channel are also we are dissolved and unloaded,” Mudita said on Tuesday (10/3/2026).
He explained, this order step is a follow-up to the number of complaints of residents related to congestion that often occur in the area.
“Traders sell almost along this road so often cause congestion. A lot of complaints from residents, because of that we did order,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Sawahan District, Kanti Budiarti, said that before the order was carried out, his party along with Sukomanunggal District had given socialization to traders not to sell on the shoulder of the road or over the channel.
“We have done socialization, both verbally and in writing, through sub-districts and sub-districts,” Kanti said.
As the order took place, the traders were judged to be cooperative. Even some stall owners dismantle their buildings independently.
“Thank God the cooperative traders. We also help people transport items that are still needed,” he said.
Separately, the Sukomanunggal District, Dwi Anggara Widya Sukma, added that the locals supported the order because so far the existence of the spill market often caused congestion.
“Thank God the people supported this order. We also appeal to the public to take care and report if there are similar violations,” Angga said.
The local government also offers a number of alternative locations selling for traders affected by the order. Among them is the Simo Market on Jalan Simo Katrungan, Simo Gunung Market on Jalan Banyu Urip, as well as two private markets located in the area of Jalan Simo Katrungan and Jalan Simo Rejo Timur managed by local RW cooperatives.
In addition, ready-to-eat food traders are also welcome to occupy the Culinary Tourism Center (SWK) which has been provided by the Surabaya Municipal Government.
“Can enter SWK or rent a place of business that operates until the afternoon,” he said.
Angga hopes, after the order is done, the management of the market in the future can be adjusted to the shopping patterns of the people of Surabaya that are widely done in the afternoon.
“We hope that PD Pasar together with the DPRD can review the possibility of adjusting market operational hours to be more in accordance with the needs of the community,” he concluded. (za).
